Click a chord to add it to the end. Drag chords or use the arrows to reorder, and tap the length to change how long each one lasts. Changes come in the next time round. The fretboard follows the music: it lights up each chord’s notes as the chord arrives, with a scale that fits it, and rings the next chord’s notes on the last beat. Click a chord to look at it while stopped. Use the mixer to balance the band, or turn the guitar down to play the chords yourself.

Rhythm
No rhythm notation needed: the space between notes is the rhythm. Each beat is the same width, so a note twice as far from the next one lasts twice as long. Notes ring until the next note on the same string.

Guitar Tuner

Tap a string to hear it, or start the tuner and play

The tuner listens through your microphone, works out which string you're playing and goes green when you're within 3 cents. Nothing is recorded or sent anywhere. The tuner is also in the menu at the top of every page.

Free guitar tools to help you practise

Twelve free tools to help you tune up, learn the fretboard, understand theory, practise with purpose, keep time, train your ears, jam along and write your own music. Built by guitarist and teacher Joe Rowley.

I built these tools for my own students and anyone else learning guitar or bass. Tune up with the Guitar Tuner, then use the Fretboard Navigator to see how scales, arpeggios and chords fit together across the neck, the Theory Trainer to make the theory stick, and the Chord & Key Finder to name any chord shape or work out the key of a song.

To practise, the Exercise Generator turns scales into focused drills, the Metronome & Drum Machine tightens your timing, the Strum Trainer builds your rhythm playing and the Practice Log keeps you coming back. To play and write there's the Backing Track Creator, the Tab Creator and Capo & Transpose, and the Ear Trainer teaches you to hear intervals and chords.

They all run in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer, with nothing to install and no sign-up. There are also pages for every common scale in all 12 keys, the chords in every key and every common guitar tuning. Each tool has its own page with a full guide:
